Waxahachie Softball Advances to Area Finals with 11-2 Win Over Temple
At 34-and-1, Waxahachie entered Saturday's area-round matchup with Temple as one of the most dominant programs in Texas high school softball this season — and the Indians did nothing to change that narrative.
Sophomore Michaela Landers put the game away early, shooting a ball down the left-field line in the bottom of the first that landed just fair and scored two runs. The play gave Landers RBI numbers 100 and 101 on the season — a milestone that underscores just how productive her sophomore campaign has been.
When Temple threatened in the second inning with the bases loaded, freshman Macy Barnes — unbeaten in the circle this year — delivered a strikeout to end the threat and keep Waxahachie in control. Barnes also showed her range defensively, laying out for a ball in the first inning to keep Temple off the board.
The Indians added to their lead in the third when a fly ball off the bat of Lila Tovar was knocked down by the wind and dropped in, scoring both Mackenzie Colvard and Cicely Thompson.
Waxahachie closed out an 11-2 victory to advance to the area finals, extending one of the most impressive records in DFW high school softball this spring.
