Grandview Zebras Win Back-to-Back 3A-DI State Softball Titles Behind Doty's 14 Ks
Back-to-back. Grandview softball has done it again, claiming the Class 3A Division I State Championship with a 2-0 shutout of Iowa Park at McCombs Field in Austin — the program's fourth title game appearance in five years.
It wasn't a clean start for the Zebras. Iowa Park loaded the bases against Madi Doty in the first inning, threatening to set the tone early. The future University of Texas Longhorn responded the way she has all season — with strikeouts — punching out two Hawks to escape the jam without damage.
From there, Doty only got sharper. She finished with 14 strikeouts on the day, never allowing Iowa Park to cross the plate, and was named Nike MVP for her performance.
The offense came in the fourth inning. KJ Hubbard drove a gap shot to right-center to plate the game's first run and put Grandview ahead 1-0. Ally May followed with a ground ball toward first that was mishandled, allowing Hubbard to score and push the lead to 2-0. A bases-loaded opportunity later in the inning went unrewarded when Doty struck out to end the frame — but the two runs were all she would need.
Doty closed it out in the seventh with a strikeout, putting the final punctuation on a complete-game gem. Grandview wins 2-0 and hoists the state trophy for the second consecutive year.
