Barbers Hill Wins 5A D1 Softball Title With 11-0 Run Rule Over Aledo
Forty wins. That was the number Barbers Hill put on the board when it mattered most, capping a dominant season with an 11-0 run-rule victory over Aledo in the Class 5A Division I softball state championship at McCombs Field in Austin.
The Eagles broke the game open with two runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth before Maddy Ray delivered the knockout blow — a grand slam in the fifth that drove her run total to six on the day. That grand slam proved to be the decisive hit in a game that was never truly in doubt.
Aledo starter Tempa Perry battled, recording strikeouts on the mound, but the Ladycats couldn't generate the offense needed to keep pace. Still, Aledo's run to the title game was no small feat — the Ladycats knocked off perennial 5A powerhouse Melissa in the semifinals just a week prior.
With a young roster, Aledo's future remains bright. But on this day at UT Austin, it was Barbers Hill's championship to claim.
