Forney Softball Walks Off Tomball 9-8 to Reach State Semifinals
A six-run second inning turned the tide for Forney's softball team, and a walk-off hit in the seventh sealed one of the most dramatic playoff victories of the season.
The Jackrabbits fell behind early when Tomball's Leila Guerra launched a three-run home run down the left field line in the second inning, pushing the lead to 6-1. But Forney responded immediately in the bottom of the frame with six runs of their own. Sophia Heredia drove in two with a shot past third base, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Miley Salas followed with a high chopper off the third baseman's glove that allowed Carlee Rabal to score the tying run. Kambree Wilson then gave Forney the lead with a single to left that plated Heredia, capping the rally and making it 7-6.
Tomball reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning when Brileigh Taylor dropped a hit into left-center to make it 8-7. The game came down to the final frame, and Forney delivered. After tying the game in the bottom of the seventh, Heredia stepped up again and blasted a ball over the left fielder's head, sending Bailee McGee home with the winning run.
Forney advances to the state semifinals with the 9-8 victory.
