Flower Mound Softball Wins Game 1 Over Eaton 8-7 on Walk-Off Sac Fly
A regional semifinal series between Flower Mound and Eaton opened with the kind of drama that defines playoff softball—a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final at-bat.
Eaton struck first, plating four runs in the opening inning. Taylor Colon drove an opposite-field shot that hit the line and skipped into foul territory, allowing two runs to score in the big frame.
The Lady Jags began their comeback with defense. Nahla Hurst made a spectacular diving catch in left field to keep Eaton from extending its lead. Down 4-1 in the fourth inning, Flower Mound turned to the long ball. Julisa Baldarez launched a three-run home run to left field, tying the game at 4-4.
Flower Mound took the lead in the fifth when Macy Jo Mays sent a two-run blast over the "Jags Eyes" sign in deep center field. The Lady Jags carried a 7-4 advantage into the seventh inning.
Eaton refused to fold. The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the seventh to force a tie, with Taryn Adams ripping a run-scoring hit into the gap. The game stood at 7-7 heading to the bottom of the inning.
Flower Mound loaded the bases with runners on second and third with one out. Baldarez drove a fly ball to right field deep enough to score the winning run on a sacrifice fly. The Lady Jags took Game 1 of the best-of-three series, 8-7.
