Brewer Rallies Past Burleson 8-6 in 5A-D2 Area Round Softball
A seven-game win streak became eight as Brewer erased a four-run deficit to defeat Burleson 8-6 in a 5A-Division 2 area round playoff matchup in Mansfield.
Burleson jumped ahead early when Lola Andrews lined a ball to short that got away from the fielder, allowing both Kayleigh Pena and Kaydan Dorman to score in the bottom of the first. The Elks extended their advantage to 6-2 in the second inning when Pena split the right-center alley, plating Tessa Goodwin.
Brewer cut into the lead with one swing when Haylie Jimenez drove a three-run homer over the center field wall, pulling the Bears within one run. The comeback continued as Brewer eventually tied the game and took the lead when Ava Pena laid down a bunt that beat the throw to first. The ball got away, allowing Lilly Mellor to score what proved to be the decisive run.
The Bears advance in the playoffs with the 8-6 victory.
