Sachse Mustangs Dominate Heath Hawks 14-4 in Game 1 Behind Two 5-Run Innings
Heath entered the matchup seeking their third state title in program history, but Sachse had other plans in Wednesday night's series opener.
The Mustangs wasted no time establishing control. In the top of the 2nd inning, Greyson Darden drove a ball up the middle to plate Noah Siddall and Colt Upchurch, giving Sachse an early 3-0 advantage. Julian Moreno followed with a single to left field that scored two more, bringing Jocob Ponce and Darden across the plate. It was the first of two 5-run innings for the Mustangs.
Sachse's defense matched their offensive output. Siddall made a highlight-reel snag to close out the 2nd inning in style, keeping the Hawks off balance. Heath didn't bat around the order until they already trailed 8-0.
Ponce added to the damage later in the game, one-hopping the wall in deep center field to drive in Nathan Sereseroz and Luke Visser. The Mustangs cruised to a 14-4 victory, taking a commanding 1-0 series lead.
