Marcus Hands Tomball Their First Loss of the Season | 2026 Baseball

June 3, 2026
Marcus pitcher Michael Killian shut down unbeaten Tomball 2-1 in Game 1, handing the Cougars their first loss of the 2026 season.

Unbeaten teams don't stay that way forever, and Tomball found that out the hard way against a Marcus squad with unfinished business from a year ago.

The Marauders, who reached the state semifinals in 2025, handed Tomball their first loss of the 2026 season with a 2-1 victory in Game 1 of their series. The difference was Marcus pitcher Michael Killian, who was sharp from the start and leaned on the strikeout all night long.

Marcus drew first blood in the early innings when Braden Gulick lined one into left-center, scoring Cole Schott from second base to make it 1-0. The Marauders extended the lead to 2-0 in the third on a play that required a ruling — Easton Mitchell's sacrifice fly to right appeared to result in an out at the plate, but the umpires called catcher's interference in the baseline, allowing Austin Allen to score.

Tomball made it interesting in the seventh, pulling within one and getting the tying run into scoring position. Killian responded by inducing a fielder's choice to end the threat and seal the win. The 2-1 final gives Marcus the early edge in the series and sends a message to the rest of the field.
