Aledo Bearcats Win Back-to-Back 5A D1 State Baseball Titles With 3-1 Victory
Back-to-back state titles are rare in Texas high school baseball, and Aledo now has them. The Bearcats defeated Montgomery Lake Creek 3-1 at Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock to claim the 5A Division I state championship — the program's third title overall.
Aledo built its lead early. In the third inning, Landon Barnes snuck a ball under the glove of the Lake Creek third baseman, allowing Luke Gladchuck to score and make it 2-0. The next batter, Lucas Nawrocki, lined a single to right that brought Barnes home, pushing the advantage to 3-0 heading into the fourth.
That three-run cushion looked more than sufficient with Nawrocki on the mound. The LSU commit was dominant through five innings, carrying a no-hitter before control issues crept in during the sixth. Aledo turned to a reliever, and Lake Creek finally got on the board — Peyton Trummell launched a solo shot over the left-field fence to make it 3-1.
That would be as close as it got. Carhett Love came on in the seventh to close things out and delivered, ending the game on a strikeout to give Aledo the championship. The Bearcats leave Dell Diamond with consecutive 5A D1 titles and a third state crown for the program.
