Plano Prestonwood Drops 9-Run 2nd Inning to Win TAPPS D-1 State Title
A nine-run second inning was all Plano Prestonwood needed. The Lions captured the TAPPS Division 1 state baseball championship with an 11-2 win over Tomball Concordia Lutheran, turning the title game into a rout before the third inning ever arrived.
Prestonwood got on the board first when Max Bachmann blooped a single into right field, scoring Riggs Huggins to make it 1-0. The Lions weren't done. With the bases loaded, Trent Vilade got a curveball he liked and drove it deep to right for a grand slam, pushing the lead to 7-nothing. Bachmann added to the damage later in the frame, scorching a ball down the third-base line that found left field and allowed Huggins to race home from second.
By the time the inning was over, Prestonwood had sent 11 runs across and effectively ended the contest. The final score of 11-2 gave the Lions the TAPPS D-1 crown.
The Vilade name had a memorable week. Hours before the state title game, Trent's brother Ryan was called up to the major leagues by the Tampa Bay Rays — making it a week the family won't soon forget.
