In our Whataburger Game of the Week, the Forney Jackrabbits faced off against two-time champion Humble Kingwood in the 6A Division 2 girls soccer state championship. Forney was searching for their first-ever state title and started strong when Addison Smith found the back of the net just seven minutes into the match. The Jackrabbits held onto their 1-0 lead for nearly the entire game. However, with only seconds remaining in regulation, Kingwood's Tyler Weaver scored off a rebound to tie the game and force overtime. After a scoreless overtime period, the championship was decided by penalty kicks. Kingwood goalkeeper Hazel Rutherford made a crucial save, setting up Tyler Weaver to score the game-winning penalty kick. Humble Kingwood secured the victory 4-2 in the shootout, claiming another state championship in a heartbreaking finish for Forney.
