Arlington Martin Ends Aledo's 19-Year District Win Streak in Road Upset
Nineteen years is a long time to go unbeaten in district play — long enough, in fact, to hold the record as the longest active streak in high school football nationwide. On Friday night, Arlington Martin brought it to an end.
The Warriors traveled to Aledo and left with a 35-21 victory, handing the Bearcats their first district loss since the streak began. Martin improved to 5-0 on the season with the road win.
Aledo jumped out early when quarterback Tre Williams connected with Caden Palmquest in the back of the end zone for a 7-0 lead. Martin answered through Virginia Tech commit Javion Jones-Priest, who turned a carry into a 55-yard touchdown, cutting across the field and into the end zone to tie the game at 7.
Aledo responded with a big play of its own — Wyatt Dorsey found a hole up the middle and broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run. Dorsey finished the night with 210 yards on the ground. Williams added a second scoring strike, this one to Colby Thompson in the corner of the end zone, and the Bearcats led 21-10 at halftime.
The turning point came in the third quarter. Aledo fumbled while threatening to extend its lead, and Malik Mason was there for the recovery. Mason then made his presence felt on offense, hauling in a pass from Chase Devoll on an out route and fighting his way into the end zone. After a successful two-point conversion, Martin led 28-21.
With under two minutes remaining, Kaden Phillips sealed it — taking a carry straight up the gut, breaking an arm tackle, and racing 33 yards to the house to make it 35-21 final.
