Waxahachie Holds Off Duncanville 35-28 to Lock Up 2nd in 11-6A

November 4, 2026
Waxahachie survived a Duncanville comeback to win 35-28, all but locking up 2nd place in District 11-6A with big games from Jerry Meyer III and Maximus Denson.

A 21-point halftime lead nearly wasn't enough. Waxahachie built a commanding 35-14 advantage over Duncanville by the break, only to watch the Panthers chip away in the second half before a final Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete — preserving a 35-28 Indians win that goes a long way toward securing second place in District 11-6A.

The two programs met twice last season and appear headed for another postseason collision. Friday's regular-season matchup offered a preview of what that rematch might look like. Waxahachie struck first when Jerry Meyer III found Vyncent Cooper on a dump-off pass, and Cooper used a pair of downfield blocks to turn it into a 39-yard touchdown.

Duncanville answered in the second quarter through the arm of Maximus Denson, whose 80-yard strike to Jaruis Ingram — a pitch-and-catch that Ingram turned into a footrace — knotted the game at 14. Meyer then took over, connecting with Jashawn Crayton on a bullet for six, then hitting Jordan Thompson-Woods, who absorbed a hit, bounced off, and flipped into the end zone for the score.

The half ended on a decisive note when Denson was picked off by Cayden Starr, sending Waxahachie into the locker room with a 35-14 lead. But Duncanville refused to fold. Denson found Ingram again to make it 35-21, then hit Trenton Yancey near the goal line in the fourth quarter to pull the Panthers within seven. A final desperation heave was batted away, and Waxahachie held on for the seven-point win.
