Wylie East Goes Back-to-Back in 9-6A, Holds Off Sachse 21-16

November 5, 2026
Wylie East wins back-to-back District 9-6A titles with a 21-16 thriller over Sachse, ending the Mustangs' bid for a 9-0 start.

Back-to-back district titles don't come easy, and Wylie East had to earn every bit of this one. The Raiders held off Sachse 21-16 in a District 9-6A showdown that came down to the final possession, preserving their reign as defending champions and ending the Mustangs' bid for their first 9-0 start since 2017.

Wylie East's defense set the tone before the offense ever took the field. Donald Fisk recovered a fumble deep in Sachse territory early, and the Raiders converted the opportunity — Victor Young capping the drive with a play-action pass to Amir Porter to make it 7-0. Victor Ekpo added a touchdown late in the second half with some elusive footwork, and Wylie East took a 14-3 lead into halftime.

Sachse came out of the break with renewed energy. Caden Simms forced a fumble that Trason Haley recovered, and Brendon Quinn punched it in from five yards out to pull the Mustangs within four. Ekpo answered with his second score of the night on a delay run, pushing the Raiders back ahead 21-10, but Quinn scored again in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession game at 21-16.

With a chance to complete the comeback, Sachse drove for what could have been the go-ahead score — but Charles Perry stepped in front of a pass for the interception that clinched it. Wylie East walks away with the win and consecutive 9-6A titles.
