Oklahoma commit Michael Hawkins has not thrown a pick this season for the 7-0 Mavericks. He would be tested last night.
Meanwhile, Argyle Sophomore Maguire Gasperson starting at quarterback for the injured John Gailey and the kid can certainly handle pressure. How about a 73 yard bomb to Lane Stewart in the first quarter. Eagles with a 20-13 lead at intermission.
3rd quarter, more Gasperson, on the keeper that's an 8 yard touchdown. Argyle up 34-19. Gasperson threw for 314 yards and combined for those 2 scores.
However, Hawkins made 2 unbelievable plays to get Emerson back in it. End of the 3rd, Mavericks down at the 14....the pocket collapses.....Hawkins ducks 2 would be tacklers and takes off....jukes a 3rd guy and then jukes a 4th guy to reach the end zone. what a play. That made it 34-26.
Then in the 4th, with 8 minutes to play, again Hawkins avoids the pressure and throws a beautiful spiral on the run to Kylen Evans for a 27 yard touchdown. 2 point conversion good and we're tied up at 34.
But Gasperson would lead the Eagles on a 4 minute, 12 play drive that would be capped off by this Jake Krekeler 3 yard game winning touchdown with 21 seconds left. Argyle wins it 41-34 and I have a feeling these 2 might meet again.
