Red Oak jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after Hayden McMahon drove in Billy Middleton and Dhillon McGee. However, Ennis quickly responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to left field by Kevin Rodriguez. The Lions tied the game in the fourth inning on a perfectly executed safety squeeze by Beau Rudd, bringing Rodriguez home.
