DFW All-Star Baseball: West Tops East 10-3 in Area's Best Showcase
One last high school baseball game for the best players in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and the West squad made the most of it with a 10-3 victory over the East in the DFW All-Star Game.
Frisco Reedy's Jack Jacob set the tone from the first pitch, striking out the side in a clean opening inning. The East answered quickly, though — North Forney's Alex Calderon reached on a wild throw that allowed two runs to score, putting the East up 2-0 after one.
The West flipped the game in the third inning. Ennis outfielder Keno Castillo found grass in right field to score Azle's Mason Holleman and tie it at two, then Arlington Bowie's Christian Uribe followed with a base hit over the shortstop to plate Castillo. The West scored three in the frame to take a 5-2 lead they would never relinquish.
Holleman added to the damage in the fourth, driving one to the warning track in right to score Burleson's Joe Villavicencio and push the lead to 7-2. Burleson had another moment in the fifth when Landon Smith made a diving stop at shortstop, popped up, and threw the runner out to end the inning — one of the defensive highlights of the afternoon.
Denton Ryan's Cole Bush put the finishing touches on the win in the eighth, lacing a double to deep center that scored Fort Worth Paschal's Sebastian Piria and capped the 10-3 final.
