Byron Nelson's Brianne Groth Named DFW Volleyball Coach of the Year
Only the second program in UIL history to win back-to-back 6A volleyball state championships, Byron Nelson has built something that demands a specific word: dynasty.
Head coach Brianne Groth capped last season with a perfect 42-0 record, dropping just four sets all year on the way to a three-set victory over Pearland Dawson in the state final — the program's third title overall. The Lady Bobcats' winning streak now stands at 78 consecutive matches heading into next season.
What sets Groth's accomplishment apart is the context surrounding it. She coached every match of that championship run while pregnant with twins, never missing a step in one of the most dominant single-season performances a Texas high school volleyball program has ever produced.
For those reasons, Brianne Groth is the DFW Inside High School Sports Volleyball Coach of the Year.
