SaRod Baker Becomes DeSoto's All-Time Career Rushing Leader | Texas Tech Bound

The record was a matter of when, not if. After rushing for more than 3,000 yards and 45 touchdowns in a single season, SaRod Baker has now officially become DeSoto's all-time career rushing leader — a milestone he reached just two years into his varsity career with the Eagles.

Baker was the engine behind DeSoto's 6A Division 2 state championship last season, piling up 1,600 yards across six playoff games as the Eagles claimed the title. His production in the postseason alone would be a career highlight for most players. For Baker, it was one chapter in an ongoing story.

This season, Coach Claude Mathis has expanded Baker's role, splitting him out at quarterback to create additional ways to get the ball into his most dangerous playmaker's hands. It's a testament to both Baker's versatility and Mathis's willingness to build the offense around elite talent.

A Texas Tech commit, Baker is focused on one final goal before he heads to Lubbock — another deep playoff run with DeSoto. Given what he's already accomplished in two seasons, few would bet against him.
