Brewer Falls to Lake Creek 6-5 in State Softball Semifinal
Four state titles in five years. That's the standard Lake Creek has set, and on this night, it took every bit of that championship pedigree to hold off a Brewer team that refused to go quietly.
White Settlement Brewer came out swinging in the first inning when Camron Pride launched a three-run shot off the foul pole in left field, giving the Bears a 3-0 lead before Lake Creek could settle in. Sophomore pitcher Cozy Tyson held her own in the circle against one of the state's most dangerous offensive lineups, keeping Brewer in the game deep into the contest.
Lake Creek clawed back to take a two-run lead heading into the fifth, but Brewer wasn't finished. With two runners on, a misplayed ball in left field allowed both to score, knotting the game at five and setting up a tense finish. The defending champs responded immediately — a runner on third beat the tag at the plate in the sixth to put Lake Creek back in front 6-5.
Brewer put a runner on second in the seventh but couldn't push her across. Lake Creek held on for the 6-5 win and another state championship, their fourth in the last five years. For the upstart Brewer Bears, it was a season that far exceeded expectations and ended on one of the biggest stages in Texas high school softball.
