Lone Star's Trey Wright Leads Rangers to Thrilling 70-69 Basketball Win Over Houston Kinkaid
With 40 seconds on the clock and the Rangers trailing by two, Josiah Smith caught the ball open beyond the arc and buried the three-pointer — the kind of shot that ends highlight reels and wins games. Lone Star walked off with a 70-69 victory over Houston Kinkaid.
The win was another chapter in a busy stretch for Lone Star's Trey Wright, the Rangers' standout quarterback who has spent the summer making the rounds at national football camps. On the basketball court, Wright proved his athleticism translates. He connected from behind the arc after a feed from Mekhi Connor, then hauled in a deep, low alley-oop from Connor on the break and finished through contact — a play that required both instinct and coordination.
Justin Harper set the tone early, knocking down a top-of-the-key three and then flipping the script on defense with a steal that he converted into a snowbird layup. Lone Star carried a 39-27 halftime lead before Kinkaid clawed back to take a late edge. Smith's clutch three with 40 seconds remaining proved to be the difference, giving the Rangers the one-point win.
