May 20, 2026
DFW tennis players dominate UIL state championships with titles in multiple classifications from Allen, Highland Park, Grapevine and Frisco schools.

The metroplex made its presence felt at the UIL state tennis championships in San Antonio, with Dallas-Fort Worth athletes capturing titles across multiple classifications.

In 6A Boys Singles, Allen's Sebastian Zavala defeated Aidan Shoo of Katy Seven Lakes 6-3, 6-2 in what became the longest match of the category. The two competitors had to change clothes and courts along the way, but Zavala's strength proved decisive in claiming the singles title.

The 5A Boys Singles championship became an all-DFW affair as Aah-ditt Rishi of Frisco Lebanon Trail outlasted Brodie Keller of Dallas White 6-3, 6-3. Rishi used precision and power to prevail in the metroplex tussle.

Highland Park's Steven Hu and Collier Muenker captured the 5A Boys Doubles title, tested by Frisco Centennial's Aarohan Sharma and Akshay Kommineni before the Scots' serving and net play carried them to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in another all-metroplex battle.

Grapevine's Sara Gyoergy and Noah Malin staged a dramatic comeback in 5A Mixed Doubles, overcoming a 4-1 deficit in the first set to win the next five games and defeat Midlothian's Caleb and Hannah Hobbs 6-4, 6-3 before an electric crowd.

Frisco Wakeland's Ella Wertz and Dylan Liebhardt battled back repeatedly in 5A Girls Doubles against Amarillo's Olivia Hefley and Sara Shelhamer, but the Sandies duo prevailed 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the final match of the day.

At the AnnMarie Tennis Center, Frisco Panther Creek swept the 4A Boys Singles podium as Aariz Rehman defeated teammate Cale Gray 6-1, 7-6, showcasing the program's depth at state.

In 4A Boys Doubles, Lindale's Parker Hollingsworth and Max Haakenstad overcame a shaky start against Celina's Koushal Damacharla and Bowen Young, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The 4A Girls Singles final saw Prosper Richland's Amanda Tanaka fall to four-time state champion and future Longhorn Rylee MicKna of Taylor 6-3, 6-1, as MicKna's strength proved too much in the final set.
