Bridgeport Bulls Win First State Title in Thrilling Overtime Victory Over Royal

After an hour-and-a-half lightning delay, Bridgeport made history. Trailing 2-1 in the second half of the 4A D2 final, David Duran's pass found Xxavier Garza for the equalizer that forced overtime.

Jared Contreras took over from there. He finished with a hat trick—including a right-foot strike off a Jose Iniguez feed and a header off Julian Martinez's cross—to lead Bridgeport to a 5-2 victory and the program's first state championship. Contreras earned MVP honors.
