Summer Creek Tops Lancaster 48-36 in 6A State Champions Showdown

July 7, 2026
Summer Creek defeated Lancaster 48-36 in a matchup of defending 6A state champions, with Kiylah Long leading all scorers with 10 points.

When two defending 6A state champions share the same floor, the stakes need no introduction. Summer Creek and Lancaster met in Bryan in exactly that kind of matchup, and it was the Bulldogs who came away with a 48-36 win.

Lancaster showed early promise, building a lead behind the athleticism of Ava Womack, whose steal and strong finish to the basket set the tone. Womack finished with 7 points for the Tigers. Kiylah Long also made her presence felt before halftime, driving the lane and pulling up for a mid-range bucket, while Jaiden Curry grabbed an offensive board and converted in the final minute of the half to keep Lancaster within striking distance at the break.

The second half belonged to Summer Creek. Lancaster's Aja Smith kept the Tigers competitive, knocking down a pull-up jumper off the wing for 9 of her points, and Womack found Long in the corner for a three-pointer — part of Long's game-high 10-point effort. Long also connected with Kennedy Borders on a sharp backdoor cut for a bucket.

Despite the individual contributions, Lancaster couldn't close the gap. Summer Creek held on for the 48-36 final in a matchup that lived up to its billing between two of the top programs in Class 6A.
