Kimball Basketball's Fishing Trip

When the final buzzer sounded on a 69-48 state title victory for the Kimball Knights, it was the culmination of a season long journey of long practices and intense games that ended up with the ultimate goal…..a 5A state championship. This past summer, after Head coach Nick Smith took in all the accolades and honors his team deserved, he finally got to come up for air and do what he loved the most….fishing.

Coach Smith and his son, Reece, spent many summer weekends at this fishing spot just outside of Quinlan. Away from the basketball court, Smith is an outdoorsman at heart. Whether it’s fishing or hunting, you can usually find coach enjoying the outdoors.

When Smith got into coaching, he realized a lot of his players had never been fishing. As a matter of fact, most had never experienced anything outside of the inner city life. So he’s taken different trips throughout the year with his players in hopes of widening their interests. And if you ask the kids, the plan has worked.

Coach Smith only brought two players with him this time, but as the year goes on, every player will get a chance to go on a fishing trip with their coach.
