Grady Emerson: Fort Worth Christian's MLB Draft Prospect and USA Baseball Star

June 11, 2026
Fort Worth Christian's Grady Emerson, projected No. 2 MLB Draft pick, hit .531 with 4 USA Baseball gold medals under coach Rusty Greer.

Four gold medals with USA Baseball. A .531 batting average. A projected No. 2 overall pick in the MLB Draft. For Fort Worth Christian senior Grady Emerson, the numbers tell part of the story — but only part of it.

Emerson transferred from Argyle to the Cardinals, drawn in part by the chance to play for Rusty Greer, the nine-year MLB veteran and former Texas Ranger who now coaches at Fort Worth Christian. For a kid who grew up watching the Rangers, the connection was personal. Greer says the admiration runs both ways.

On the field, Emerson's senior season has been exceptional. He's hitting .531 with a .646 on-base percentage, an OPS north of 1.600, eight home runs, and 30 stolen bases — numbers that follow three previous seasons above .300. His approach is deliberately straightforward: hunt the fastball, control the strike zone, put a barrel on the ball.

"Baseball is a hard enough game," Emerson said. "I try to keep it as simple as it can be."

That simplicity is backed by relentless work. Greer describes a player who seeks out extra ground balls and extra swings not because he has to, but because he wants to. The competitive drive extends to the international stage, where Emerson has represented the United States four times and come home with gold each time.

"You realize after a while you're playing for more than just yourself or the team," Emerson said of wearing the red, white, and blue. "You're playing for the whole country."

Baseball America recently projected Emerson as the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming MLB Draft. His other option is the University of Texas. Either way, Greer has little doubt about what comes next.

"As he grows and matures, he's going to get better and better," Greer said. "If and when this becomes his job, the game is going to skyrocket."
