From North Crowley State Champs to College Football: Coach Makes the Jump

Four seasons. Four losses. One state championship. The run at North Crowley was the kind of résumé that tends to attract attention from the next level — and eventually, it did.

The coach who engineered that turnaround sat down to discuss his transition to college football, a move made easier by geography. Staying in the Metroplex meant no relocation, no uprooting his family, and a chance to build on what he had already established in Fort Worth.

North Crowley wasn't always a powerhouse. When he arrived, one of the first challenges wasn't scheme or recruiting — it was retention. Talented players from the area were leaving after middle school, heading to other programs. He recalled a conversation with a prominent college defensive line coach whose son had attended North Crowley, who told him he once counted eight Division I-caliber players on the field at a North Crowley game — and the following year, only his son remained.

Changing that required convincing the community that the program was worth believing in. It meant keeping kids in Crowley, building trust with families, and creating a sense of pride that extended beyond the football field. The results spoke for themselves: a state title in 2024 and a program that put Fort Worth back in the DFW football conversation.

He also spoke candidly about the demands of being a high school head coach — a role that goes well beyond game planning. Father figure, counselor, mentor. The coaches who do it well, he said, do it from the heart. At North Crowley, that bond translated into a team that would, in his words, run through a wall for their coaches.
