In a thrilling 5A Division 1 girls state semifinal matchup in Keller, the Walnut Grove Wildcats defeated Burleson Centennial 2-0 to secure their spot in the state tournament. After a scoreless first half, Walnut Grove broke the tie when Brynlie Ward delivered a perfect corner kick to Hannah Boelscher, who headed the ball into the back of the net. The defining moment of the game came when Burleson Centennial was awarded a penalty kick with a chance to tie. Walnut Grove goalkeeper Finley Pike made an incredible initial save against Mardie Frye and immediately stopped the rebound. Just 27 seconds later, Kylee Giametta set up Maya Nohr for a clutch goal, extending the lead to 2-0. Pike continued her stellar performance with another amazing save over the crossbar, ensuring the shutout. The Walnut Grove girls soccer team will now join the boys team at the state tournament.
