Lancaster and Cedar Hill Turn Seasons Around
When the year started, Lancaster found themselves ranked in the top 5 for area 5A teams. However, after a season opening win over Skyline, the Tigers dropped 4 straight and staggered into their bye week at 1-4. 15 miles down the road, Cedar Hill was opening a new era with first year Head Coach Nick Ward, but they, too, got out the gates slowly and were 1-4 when their bye week hit as well. Neither team hung their heads, but instead took something to build on from each defeat.
Both the Tigers and Longhorns felt rejuvenated out of the break and slowly started turning their seasons around. They both have gone 7-1 since the bye and despite being 4th place teams in their districts, still found themselves playing December football. For Cedar Hill, it was a 33 point win over Mansfield that put them on the playoff track and once they got in….they all the way bought in.
Lancaster got some motivation from senior wide receiver, T’Erick Martin. This past spring, Martin was shot 4 times at a party and was told he’d never play football again. However, not only is he playing…he’s thriving….and the Tigers used his story as a rallying cry to go on a 6 game winning streak.
