Christian Gonzalez Returns to The Colony to Give Back to His Community
Before the Super Bowl rings and first-round draft calls, there was The Colony High School — where Christian Gonzalez first started turning heads on both sides of the ball. During his senior season in 2019, Gonzalez rose rapidly through recruiting rankings as both a receiver and a highly coveted cornerback, setting the stage for a college career that took him through Colorado and Oregon before the New England Patriots selected him 17th overall in the NFL Draft.
Now in his fourth year with New England and coming off a Super Bowl season in which he established himself as one of the top cover corners in the league, Gonzalez made the trip back to North Texas to give back to the community that helped shape him. The day included food, a celebrity basketball game featuring several of his NFL teammates and opponents, and — most importantly — a chance to speak directly to the young athletes coming up behind him.
Head Coach Rudy Rangel, who recognized early on that Gonzalez was a generational talent, was part of the homecoming. Gonzalez has long spoken to teammates about the culture of Texas high school football and the Friday Night Lights experience that defined his early years. On this day, he brought that story full circle — back to where it all began.
