Billy Bowman Jr & Ja'Tavion Sanders Host Hometown Heroes Youth Football Camp at Denton Ryan

Before they were NFL starters, they were Raiders. Billy Bowman Jr. and Ja'Tavion Sanders built their reputations on the same Denton Ryan field where they recently returned to give back — hosting the first annual Hometown Heroes Youth Football Camp ahead of NFL training camp.

Bowman, now a cornerback with the Atlanta Falcons, and Sanders, a tight end with the Carolina Panthers, were cornerstones of one of the most dominant stretches in Ryan program history. During their junior and senior seasons, those Raider teams went 30-1, made two state title game appearances, and captured a championship during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Six players from those rosters currently play in the NFL.

Both athletes were two-way contributors — Bowman lining up at wide receiver and cornerback, Sanders at tight end and edge rusher. Sanders, in particular, became known for his one-handed catches, a highlight-reel skill that followed him into the college and professional ranks.

The camp was designed to do more than run drills. Bowman and Sanders used the event to share the kind of life lessons that shaped their own paths, offering young players in the DFW area a direct connection to what a Denton Ryan football career can lead to at its highest level.
