Tristan and Amari Coleman Honor Late Father Dwight Through Basketball

May 20, 2026
Tristan and Amari Coleman honor their late father Dwight, a former Nolan Catholic coach, through basketball and family leadership.

Twin brothers carry more than just basketball dreams—they carry the memory of a father who shaped the DFW basketball community. Tristan and Amari Coleman were 13 years old when their father Dwight, a former coach at Nolan Catholic, passed away suddenly from a pulmonary embolism.

The tragedy sent shockwaves through the local basketball community, where Dwight Coleman was loved and respected. The outpouring of support included a note and signed jersey from Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, which now hangs on the family's wall as a reminder of their father's impact.

For their mother, the early days meant holding the family together while processing an unimaginable loss. The Coleman twins have had to grow up fast, accepting their roles as big brothers to younger sisters Kennedy and Chloe with pride. They recently stepped in to take their sisters to the annual Father-Daughter dance at their school.

Both Tristan and Amari dream of playing basketball as far as it will take them, with aspirations of one day going into coaching—following directly in the footsteps of a father whose influence continues to guide them.
