In a highly anticipated 5A D2 girls soccer state semifinal, the Grapevine Lady Mustangs pulled off a stunning 1-0 upset against the Frisco Wakeland Lady Wolverines. Wakeland entered the match as an absolute juggernaut, having lost only one game in the previous three years. They dominated the early possession, keeping the ball in Grapevine's half for the first ten minutes and creating numerous scoring opportunities that failed to find the back of the net. The momentum shifted in the middle of the second half when a turnover gave Grapevine a rare offensive chance. Sophomore Paola Granados capitalized, burying the ball in the corner to give the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Wakeland fought hard to equalize, with Missouri commit Audrey Gilbert blasting a shot off the crossbar with under six minutes remaining. Ultimately, Grapevine's defense held strong, securing the 1-0 victory and punching their ticket to the State Championship match.
