The Cooldown- Week 19
DFW - Week Nineteen
District play started for many schools across the state last Friday and many teams will get into their full district schedule this week with games on Tuesday and Friday. A few DFW teams got off to a good start in district play. Let’s talk about those squads below.
Lewisville survives Coppell
Lewisville outscored Coppell 18-12 in the 2nd quarter but would be outscored in every other quarter. The Fighting Farmers survived 62-61 to pick up a nice early district win on the road against the 15th ranked Cowboys. Keyonte George led the way once again for Lewisville with 35 points.
Coppell featured a more balanced scoring attack with four players scoring in double figures and the Cowboys will remain a team to watch throughout district play. We will be sure to keep an eye on George and the Fighting Farmers as well after Lewisville proved it can compete with the best teams in its district.
L.D. Bell upsets Trinity
It’s always a big deal around L.D. Bell when the Blue Raiders defeat Trinity. L.D. Bell took round one at home and will have to play the Trojans in their gym later this season. The Blue Raiders were a state-ranked team last week before they suffered a few tough losses in a holiday tournament and dropped out of the rankings. L.D. Bell can climb back into those rankings and a win over a deep Trinity team is a good start.
L.D. Bell led 16-10 after the 1stquarter and wouldn’t look back the rest of the way. Jaden Wells led the Blue Raiders with 20 points while Deng Alier and Ian Brown added 10 points apiece. Marcus Ervin and Noel Kabanaga each had 14 points to lead Trinity while Tavares James and Malachi Farr each added eight points of their own. Both of these teams boast plenty of depth and we will be sure to make it out to the rematch at Trinity in a few weeks.
Prosper defeats Jesuit
Prosper got off to a good start in district play with a 61-50 win over Jesuit. It will be a rough start to district play for Jesuit as the Rangers follow up their district opening loss to Prosper with a game against Allen on Tuesday night.
This game was close through the first three quarters before Prosper outscored Jesuit 20-11 in the final frame. Mondo Battle II led Prosper with 24 points while Austin Atkinson added nine points of his own. The Eagles showed off their depth in this game as nine different players scored for Prosper. Jesuit was led by Darryl Brown, who scored 28 of the Rangers 50 points. Gavin Perryman added 11 points and Cal Linn had eight points. Prosper will be a team to keep an eye on as the Eagles figure to be the best test Allen will get in district play.
