The Cooldown - Week 20

DFW - Week Twenty
We are three games deep into district play now and we’re beginning to find about more about teams across the metroplex. There are some interesting district races already shaping up. We’ll be five games into district play by the end of this week and most districts will be done with the first round of games by the end of next week. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting storylines from last week.

Keyonte George Scores 1,000thPoint

Keyonte George recorded his 1,000thpoint for the Lewisville Fighting Farmers basketball team. He did it in just 41 games. I tweeted about it earlier in the week, but if you haven’t made it to a Lewisville game to watch this young man hoop, I highly suggest doing so before this season is over. Of course, George has a few more years at Lewisville before he moves on, but talents like this only stays around for so long. Look at all the talent that left the state last year. It isn’t a quick trip down the road to watch Tyrese Maxey play anymore.

Lewisville is 18-9 and currently ranked No. 18 in the state rankings. George is going to have to take this team as far as they will go, but he has some help around him. There is a reason this team is ranked in 6A. It isn’t easy to be ranked or to stay ranked, and this team is ranked ahead of some really good teams in large part because of this talented sophomore. That's why he earned a bobblehead on this past week's show.

Ranked Teams
Speaking of ranked teams, DFW has a lot of them. This may not be surprising to most, especially after the amount of talent and good teams in the area last season. There are still plenty of opportunities for fans to get out and see these teams play before the playoffs start. Here are the state ranked 6A DFW teams.

#1 Duncanville

#3 Waxahachie

#7 Allen

#11 Richardson

#13 Grand Prairie

#14 South Grand Prairie

#17 Prosper

#18 Lewisville

#19 Coppell

#20 Denton Guyer

#24 DeSoto

Some of these teams play in the same district and will play one another down the road. Grand Prairie launched into the rankings after upsetting South Grand Prairie and those two still have one more matchup later in the season. Lewisville and Coppell still have a matchup left on the schedule. Allen and Prosper will play one another. There are plenty of good hoops happening around the metroplex over the next few months. Get out and support these athletes and enjoy the game!

Tragedy at Ellis- Davis Fieldhouse
Gunshots rang out at Ellis- Davis Fieldhouse over the weekend during a game between South Oak Cliff and Kimball. The incident left one young man in critical condition. School functions are no place for guns or for violence. I grew up playing basketball. I have been around the game my entire life. All of us here at Inside High School Sports and extend out sincere thoughts, prayers and condolences to those that have been affected by this tragedy.
