Western Hills Holds Off Dunbar 31-25 in Rare Wednesday Night Fort Worth Showdown

October 5, 2026
Western Hills defeated Dunbar 31-25 in a Wednesday night Fort Worth game featuring a 75-yard kickoff return and a 78-yard touchdown reception.

Wednesday night football is a rarity in Texas high school sports, but Fort Worth delivered a memorable one as Western Hills edged Dunbar 31-25 in a back-and-forth contest that opened with fireworks on the very first play.

Dunbar's Detrick James set the tone immediately, scooping up the opening kickoff and racing 75 yards untouched into the end zone to put the Wildcats ahead 7-0 before Western Hills had run a single offensive snap.

The Cougars responded in kind. Quarterback Tyler Johnson found D'Tyree Faulk on a short pass into the flats, and Faulk did the rest — picking up two key blocks and using his speed to turn a short gain into a 78-yard touchdown. Western Hills missed the extra point and trailed 7-6, but the momentum had clearly shifted.

When the final points needed to be scored, it was Tyrin Lewis who delivered for Western Hills. Lewis ran into a pile near the goal line but kept his legs churning and pushed through for the score that ultimately sealed the 31-25 victory for the Cougars.
