In football, you rarely saw Vernon on the sidelines He loved everything about football….except the style of offense the Volunteers ran As great as he was on the football field, he was even better on the diamond where he batted over .500 his senior year and was drafted in the first round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Wells was a 3 time All Star during his major league career, but after he hung up the cleats, it was back to the gridiron. But this time, as a coach for Colleyville Covenant Wells has been an assistant for 6 years for the Cougars and was a part of 2 state championship teams. And when his players take the field, not only are they being coached by Wells, but he has former NFL players Correll Buckhalter and Tank Reed on staff as well.
