UIL 6A District Preview: Denton Guyer, Lewisville, Hebron & More

Quarterback turnover is reshaping one of the DFW area's most competitive UIL 6A districts heading into the 2026 season. Denton Guyer, Lewisville, Hebron, Marcus, and Frisco Wakeland are all navigating roster changes — some more disruptive than others — as the race for four playoff spots takes shape.

Denton Guyer enters as the consensus favorite, and the reason is straightforward: defense. Analyst Matt Digs projects the Wildcats to carry 6-7 Division I prospects on that side of the ball, with names like Zane Rowe, Kyron Haywood, and Darian Neal headlining a unit that could make Guyer the most physically imposing team in the metroplex. Offensively, Carter Morgan steps into a defined starting role after logging over 1,000 passing yards last season and handling most of the playoff snaps. The two-quarterback rotation that complicated things a year ago is gone.

Lewisville comes in at number two despite losing Trey Williams, who transferred to Aledo. D.J. Martin returns as a versatile weapon — nearly 800 total yards and eight touchdowns as the utility player of the year — and sophomore tight end Rain Bony is expected to take on a larger offensive role. The bigger question is up front, where the Fighting Farmers need to identify a new anchor on an offensive line that has historically produced D1 talent.

Hebron slots in at three with one significant advantage over the rest of the field: quarterback continuity. Brady Brock is back, and the entire offense is expected to run through him. Defensive contributors Preston Crayton and Roderick Joiner III add depth to a program that Digs believes is about three touchdowns per game away from the top two — close enough to make things interesting.

Marcus draws the fourth playoff spot projection despite losing starting quarterback NASCAR to transfer. The Marauders have a history of absorbing adversity and finding ways into the postseason. Linebacker Gage Patrick and skill player Jamison Mayfield are names to watch, though the quarterback situation remains unsettled as of now, with a few transfer candidates reportedly in the mix.

Frisco Wakeland, moving up from 5A Division I to 6A, rounds out the conversation. The Wolverines have made deep playoff runs at the lower classification and feel overlooked by those writing them off. Myles Lashley — son of WWE star Bobby Lashley — is a defensive presence with a physical edge, and Austin Cole is expected to start at quarterback. Braxton Cole's return adds offensive firepower, but depth concerns may limit how far Wakeland can go in a loaded district.

With quarterback questions at multiple programs and young talent still developing, the battle for that fourth and final playoff spot could go several different directions before the season is over.
