Flashback to the Dynasty Built by Todd Dodge at Southlake Carroll Between 2000-2006
WHEN TODD DODGE ARRIVED AT SOUTHLAKE CARROLL IN 2000, THE DRAGONS ALREADY HAD 3 TITLES. BUT THOSE WERE AT THE 3-A LEVEL. CARROLL WAS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO COULD COACH THEM TO TITLES IN THEIR NEW CLASSIFICATION, 5-A….THE STATE’S TOP CLASS. DODGE WAS THE MAN FOR THE JOB AS HE WON HIS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP THERE JUST TWO YEARS AFTER BEING HIRED IN 2002. IN 2003, DODGE IN THE DRAGONS WERE BACK IN THE TITLE GAME ONLY TO COME UP ONE POINT SHORT TO KATY. FROM 2004-2006, DODGE’S SOUTHLAKE CARROLL TEAM WON 3 STRAIGHT TITLES TYING THE RECORD SET BY ABILENE HIGH IN THE ‘50’S. THE DRAGONS WON THE USA TODAY MYTHICAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2004 AND 2006 AND DODGE WON THE NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR BY USA TODAY IN 2005. HE WENT ON TO BECOME COACH AT NORTH TEXAS AFTER THE 2006 SEASON, BUT NOT AFTER HE LED THE DRAGONS TO A 98-11 RECORD AND 4 TITLES DURING HIS TENURE.
