Texas High School Football Division 10-6A is Wide Open When it Comes to Making a Run for Playoffs

Sachse has been 10-6A’s top dog for the last couple years, but they got tripped up by Wylie on the road.

The pirates have picked up a couple of wins in district play, but got beat last week by Lakeview Centennial. The Patriots also have 2 district wins, but they got beat by North Garland. The Raiders got knocked off by Naaman Forest. Which leaves Rowlett, a team that has made 14 straight playoff appearances, sitting at 3-0, but two of their wins came by 1 point. If you add in the upstart Garland Owls, it’s safe to say 7 of the 8 teams in 10-6A have a legitimate chance at those 4 playoff spots.

All the teams besides Wylie reside in Garland ISD, which means most of the kids are familiar with each other. It makes for more intense games when you’ve known the guy across the line of scrimmage for years.

To get a leg up in this district, you need to use any advantage you can find and Lakeview Centennial found a big one. 5 foot 11, 190 pound tailback, Camar Wheaton, is what’s called a gamechanger. His speed and agility have made Wheaton the number 1 running back in the nation for the 2021 class. After nursing an ankle injury the first couple weeks, Wheaton is 100% and showed everyone that last week against Wylie. Not only did he rush for 170 yards and a touchdown, but he also took the opening kickoff back 97 yards for a score. Coach Kendall miller realizes he has something special in his backfield.
