Terrell Tigers Hold Off Arlington Seguin in 49-41 Season Opener

A 90-yard kickoff return on the very first play of the 2026 season set the tone for what would become one of the more entertaining openers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Terrell's LaKevin O'Bryant took the opening kick at his own 10-yard line, found a crease up the middle, and was barely touched on his way to the end zone — a dream start for Tigers head coach Marvin Sedberry Jr., who was named IHSS Coach of the Year just a season ago.

But Arlington Seguin refused to fold. The Cougars answered in the second quarter when quarterback Caezyn Powell lofted a touchdown pass to Cam Henderson, who made an excellent catch in the end zone to give Seguin a 15-14 lead. The game continued to swing both ways through the second half, with Terrell converting a critical fourth-down strike from Nolan Hall to Tyson Hooper to push the lead to 28-21.

Powell kept Seguin's hopes alive deep into the fourth quarter, connecting with Caryell Brown on a 22-yard touchdown on third-and-9 to cut the deficit to 34-33. With the game hanging in the balance, it was Antwian Thomas who delivered the knockout blow — a 57-yard burst to the 5-yard line that effectively ended the contest. Thomas finished the night with 196 rushing yards, and Terrell closed out a 49-41 victory to start Sedberry's latest campaign on the right foot.
