Springtown vs Aubrey: Porcupines Lead 14-0 Before Chaparrals Rally for 21-14 Win
A 14-point halftime lead wasn't enough for Springtown, as the Aubrey Chaparrals rallied with 21 unanswered second-half points to hand the Porcupines a 21-14 defeat on the road.
Springtown quarterback Kaine Hill was the story through the first two quarters. He punched in a rushing touchdown late in the first quarter to put the Porcupines on the board first, then broke loose for a 73-yard scoring run late in the second quarter to push the lead to 14-0. Hill's legs were the engine of the Springtown offense all night.
The Porcupines also showed some creativity on special teams, attempting a fake punt with punter Pilot Grubis in the second quarter. Aubrey sniffed it out and stopped Grubis just short of the first down marker, but the Chaparrals were unable to convert that field position into points before halftime.
Springtown's defense also came up with a key play early, when Luke Hellman picked off a Hill — a different Hill — on a fourth-and-21 heave from Aubrey deep in their own territory, a situation too long for a field goal and too short to punt. The interception set the Porcupines up for their first scoring drive.
Despite the strong first half, Springtown couldn't hold the lead. Aubrey's offense found its rhythm after the break, scoring three times without an answer to complete the comeback and take the 21-14 win at home.
