Southlake Carroll Vs Euless Trinity - Flashback

November 26, 2019
In 2005, Southlake Carroll met Euless Trinity at Texas Stadium in one of the most highly anticapted games of the decade. Over 46 thousand fans were on hand for this epic battle.

Southlake Carroll was coming to the end of a dynastic run that ranks as arguably the best ever as they went 79-1 from 2002 to 2006. Trinity, coming off of its first ever state championship in 2005 came in as a slight underdog and hungry to earn bragging rights over their high-profile neighbors. Though the crowd was announced at just over 46 thousand fans, a look at the tape reveals far more than that. Somehow the game managed to live up to the incredible hype that featured more than 30 players from the 2 teams who would go on to play football at the collegiate level. With just under 3 minutes left in the game and Trinity clinging to a 21-16 lead, Head Coach Steve Lineweaver rolled the dice for the first time all day, calling for a fake punt on 4th and 5 at his own 38 yard line. It came up short and the Dragons were able to capitalize as Riley Dodge caps the ensuing drive from 2 yards out to lift the Dragons to a thrilling come from behind win, 22-21. They would go on from there to win their 4th state championship in 5 years. Head Coach Todd Dodge, now at Austin Westlake remembers a heart to heart conversation with the legendary Steve Lineweaver later that night.
