Southlake Carroll Holds Off Keller 40-28 Behind Ground Game
A 6-0 Keller squad came to Southlake Carroll with momentum and a junior quarterback playing at a high level—and for most of the night, Matt McCroskey made a strong case for the upset. The right-hander finished with 360 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Ethan George to put Keller on the board first and hitting Graham Kaler on a gutsy 4th-and-1 shot over the top in the second half to reclaim a 21-20 lead.
But Southlake Carroll had answers of their own. Hudson Tomcheck found Thomas Joyner III on a shuttle pass that turned into a 46-yard score—sprung by a key block from Blake Gunter—as Carroll took a 20-14 halftime edge. When Keller briefly retook the lead in the third quarter, Carroll responded by abandoning the pass and grinding it out on the ground. Brooks Biggers muscled in from 6 yards out for the go-ahead score, and Carroll never looked back.
The final: Southlake Carroll 40, Keller 28. Carroll protected home field and handed the Indians their first loss of the season, a reminder that even a prolific passing attack can be neutralized when a team controls the line of scrimmage late.
