South Oak Cliff Falls to Randle 20-14 in State Final Rematch

A season opener with state championship stakes — South Oak Cliff and Richmond Randle met at Prairie View A&M to replay last year's 5A Division 2 title game, and the result went the same way.

Randle's Texas commit Landen Williams-Callis was the difference. The running back carried 232 yards on the night and punched in two touchdowns, including a 20-yard score that pushed the Lions' lead to 13-0 in the first half.

The Golden Bears showed some life before halftime when the defense forced a turnover. Jyrion Hampton came away with an interception and, while being held up, had the presence of mind to pitch the ball back to Christopher Udom, who gained an extra 25 yards on the play. That set up a one-yard plunge from Kenneth Young to cut the deficit to 13-7.

Williams-Callis added another score to make it 20-7, but South Oak Cliff kept fighting. Late in the fourth quarter, Jayden Williams found Young on a bubble pass, and Young broke through a tackle along the sideline for a 55-yard touchdown to pull SOC within six. The Golden Bears couldn't complete the comeback, however, falling 20-14 in a season-opening loss that stings given the history between these two programs.
