Sachse Holds Off Wylie 44-42 in Wild Comeback Thriller

Nineteen points down after one quarter, Wylie nearly pulled off one of the more stunning comebacks of the DFW high school football season — and it came down to a single defensive stop.

Sachse built a 19-0 lead in the first quarter, but Wylie chipped away and had the deficit down to eight by halftime. The second half turned into a back-and-forth battle defined almost entirely by Wylie running back Daylon Gordon, who finished with 144 rushing yards, 150 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.

Gordon's fifth score tied the game at 36, capping a relentless second-half push. But on the very next play from scrimmage, Sachse's Brendon Quinn broke loose up the left sideline and stayed in bounds for a 75-yard touchdown, putting the Mustangs back on top by eight.

Gordon answered again, scoring his sixth touchdown on a 15-yard run with under two minutes to go to make it 44-42. Wylie went for two to tie, handing the ball to Gordon — but Sachse's defense stopped him short, sealing the victory.

Christian McCaffrey also had a key hand in the win, connecting with Julian Madison on a 59-yard strike in the fourth quarter to help Sachse regain control after Gordon had tied it at 29. The Mustangs survive, 44-42.
