Richland Stays Undefeated, Holds Off Brewer 51-32 in Battle of Unbeatens
Two undefeated teams, two dominant opening weeks — something had to give Friday night when Richland hosted Brewer in a marquee early-season showdown.
The Royals built a 12-point halftime lead and kept the pressure on in the third quarter when quarterback Brett Kates kept it himself on a perfectly executed QB draw to push the advantage to 37-19. But Brewer refused to fold. The Bears answered with a field goal and then a touchdown pass from Colton Ryals to Ty Salas, cutting the deficit to 37-32 midway through the fourth quarter and setting up a tense finish.
That's when Jayshon Gibson took over. The Richland running back broke a pair of tackles and refused to be brought down, finishing with 108 yards on the ground and delivering the carries that iced the game. The final score: Richland 51, Brewer 32, with the Royals remaining undefeated on the young season.
