North Crowley Stays Unbeaten, Tops Duncanville 47-30 in 11-6A Showdown

When two perennial state powers share a district, the margin for error disappears fast. That was the reality Friday night in District 11-6A, where North Crowley and Duncanville — programs with a combined history of deep playoff runs and state title appearances — met in a game that lived up to every bit of the billing.

The offenses wasted no time. Duncanville struck first on a Maximus Denson-to-Trenton Yancy connection to go up 7-0, but North Crowley answered on the very next possession. Running back G'Yrell Smith took a handoff, got to the edge, and outran the entire Duncanville defense for a 78-yard touchdown. It would not be his last highlight of the night.

The two teams traded scores throughout the first half. Duncanville's Brayden Arnold punched one in from seven yards out on a wildcat direct snap, Smith found the end zone a second time to knot it at 14, and Duncanville retook the lead on a Denson slant to Jaruis Ingram. North Crowley kept answering, with Smith following his blockers for his third score of the game. Just before halftime, quarterback Jacob Torres lofted a ball to DeMarion Mays, who made a fingertip grab in the back of the end zone to extend the lead.

Smith finished the night with 170 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, providing the engine that kept North Crowley ahead for good. The Panthers took down Duncanville 47-30, remaining unbeaten on the season and sending a statement through one of the toughest districts in Class 6A.
