North Crowley Panthers vs Arlington Bowie Volunteers - 2013 Basketball - Week 5

July 21, 2018
This game would be a Magic/Bird type showdown between 2 of the area's most prolific scorers. Bowie's Jeremy Senglin averaging just under 19 points a game and North Crowley's Jalen McCloud who averages 16 a game. Spoiler alert....both would exceed their averages big time. Let's start with Senglin. Head fake gets a defender in the air, then he crosses over McCloud, gets to the tin for the layup and is fouled...Wow....23-17 Volunteers after 1. 2nd quarter, Malcolm Hughes going in for a layup but Nik Boone comes out of nowhere to pin it on the glass....that triggers the fast break and on the other end, there's McCloud for the tough deuce. You couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere then this one either. Senglin's turn. With McCloud draped all over him, he knocks down the jumper. Senglin with 15 points in the first half. Not to be out done, McCloud takes it in the lane on Senglin and puts in the one hander. Jalen with 16 in the first half himself. North Crowley led 43-42 at the half. 2nd half, and other players start to step up. Such as the Panthers Brandon Webb who swishes the corner 3 ball and North Crowley maintains the one point lead after 3. 4th quarter, Volunteers on the run, David Chavlovich goes into the lane, switches hands to his left for the layup and foul. Another sensational move. Late 4th, McCloud "one ups" that move with a doo-zee of his own. He does a spin move between the double team and then lays it in over 2 more defenders. 11 seconds left, Panthers up 2, but Senglin finds his way to the rim again to tie the score. He scored 30 on the night. Time winding down and McCloud takes the jumper to win it....NO...it doesn't fall, but the ref calls a foul on the play. Man, what a tough way to end a thriller. And with the Bowie crowd as loud as possible, McCloud hits one of 2 free throws. 27 points for the senior. Senglin half court heave at the buzzer is short and North Crowley takes a 2 game lead in District 3-5A with the 71-70 win.
