Mesquite Edges West Mesquite 14-13 in Historic First Meeting

Two schools sharing the same ISD had never faced each other on the football field — until Friday night. Mesquite and West Mesquite finally settled the intra-district rivalry question, and it took 48 minutes and a last-second turnover to do it.

The game was scoreless at halftime before West Mesquite's Jaden Bailey broke the stalemate in the third quarter, taking off on a 51-yard touchdown run. But the Wranglers missed the extra point — a decision that would loom large before the night was over.

Trailing 13-7 in the fourth quarter, Mesquite quarterback Caleb Rhodes kept the ball himself and punched it in from 14 yards out. The Skeeters converted the extra point and took a 14-13 lead.

West Mesquite had one final chance to reclaim the lead, but a low snap hit the turf and Mesquite's Sincere Adair fell on the ball, ending the drive and the game. The Skeeters won 14-13 in a historic first meeting between the two programs.
